Description

More than 500 middle and high school students from 27 states converged upon Great Meadow, a picturesque steeplechase racecourse outside Washington D.C. to vie for the title. The third installation of the annual contest included a total prize of $60,000 in savings bonds and cash. Almost 10,000 students on 712 teams participated in regional competition all over the country.

TARC is sponsored by AIA and the National Association of Rocketry in partnership with the NASA, the American Association of Physics Teachers and 34 AIA member companies. NASA has contributed additional prizes, including a chance for students to build an advanced rocket and the opportunity for teachers to attend an advanced NASA rocketry workshop, meet with NASA engineers, and tour the Marshall Space Flight Center. The contest is aimed at increasing interest in aerospace industry carriers in middle and high school students.
