Description

This free event is open to high school students. We learned about this event too late to schedule a field trip. If you are interested in a career in Materials Science, you should consider attending this event anyway. It will provide a great opportunity to see Penn State's facilities and to speak one-on-one with Penn State students and professors in the Materials Science program.

Penn State's Materials Science program offers concentrations in:
  Polymers (plastics)
  Ceramics
  Metals
  Electronic and Photonic Materials

Materials Scientists develop new polymers, new ceramic materials, new metal alloys, and new electronic materials. This requires knowledge of Chemistry and Physics. If you enjoy Chemistry and Physics, this might be a good career choice.

10:00am - Welcome: Professor John Hellmann, Associate Head for Undergraduate Studies
11:00am–12:00pm - Tours of glass blowing laboratory, forensic materials science, microscopy of materials, and biomedical materials
12:00pm-1:00pm- Lunch (lunch will be provided)
1:00pm-2:00pm - Tours of glass blowing laboratory, forensic materials science, microscopy of materials, and biomedical materials
2:00pm-2:15pm - Wrap up
