IEEE Central PA Section provides $500 grant for stethoscope project

In November of 2005, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) named the West Branch Engineering Club as a Student Club of the IEEE.

It is a goal of the IEEE to foster student interest and achievement in Electrical Engineering and related fields. To further this goal, the Central PA Section of the IEEE has for many years provided college student clubs with small grants ($300-$500) for club projects and competitions.

In October of 2006, the West Branch Engineering Club submitted a project proposal to the Central PA Section, and we were awarded a $500 grant. These funds will make it possible for each of our twelve members to complete Stage 1 (breadboarding) of our project. We are planning to request additional funding from the IEEE at the national level through their Precollege Teacher Grant program.

The students and advisors of the West Branch Engineering Club are very grateful to the Central PA Section of the IEEE for their generous support. We would like to extend an open invitation to any IEEE member in our area to attend any one of our weekly evening workshops where we will be putting these funds to use as we learn about electronics by building electronic stethoscopes.
